<p><b>The successful candidate is expected to:</b></p><p>Teach Modules: Deliver modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in core Chemical Engineering areas including Process Design, Separation Processes, Reaction Engineering, Thermodynamics, Fluid and Heat Transfer, and Process Simulation. The normal teaching load is 3-4 modules per semester (2 semesters per academic year).</p><p>Supervise Projects: Oversee undergraduate and postgraduate projects, design projects (including the major Advanced Process Design project), and dissertations, ensuring students receive guidance on their research methodologies, design practice, and technical outcomes.</p><p>Engage in Research: Actively participate in scholarly research activities that lead to publications in refereed, indexed, and ranked international journals within the field of Chemical Engineering and related areas.</p><p>Collaborate for Grants: Initiate and develop research collaborations that result in successful research grant applications, enhancing the department's funding and research capabilities.</p><p>Curriculum Development: Play a significant role in research, curriculum development, laboratory development, and graduate supervision while attracting research funding to support program initiatives and accreditation activities (e.g., ABET, OAAA).</p><p>Lead Research Output: Produce high-quality scholarly work that contributes to the department's research output and enhances its academic reputation.</p><p>Community Engagement: Participate in service activities for the university as well as professional and local communities, promoting the importance of Chemical Engineering and engaging with industry partners.</p><p>Key Responsibilities</p><ul><li>Deliver high-quality teaching experience in foundation, undergraduate (Chemical Engineering), laboratory, postgraduate programmes and in executive programmes.</li><li>Ensure all necessary content and material is in place for the degree programmes in time.</li><li>Construct and plan student assignments, module delivery and assessment, ensuring coherence and relevance.</li><li>Liaise with the faculty Dean on all student matters & timetable planning and manage module timetable, content & resource areas, liaising with academic & technical staff as appropriate.</li><li>Engage with students and demonstrators during laboratory sessions to ensure a high level of understanding is achieved by the students.</li><li>Ensure all learning experiences comply with the expectations of all related standards of the Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) and Internation accreditation (ABET).</li><li>Monitor the student voice through meetings, surveys and reviews and liaise with the Faculty Dean in relation to findings, initiating solutions to any student dissatisfaction or other issues.</li><li>Formulate and coordinate the Final Year Projects and Thesis to ensure a consistent and rigorous process, including liaising with industry where necessary.</li><li>Attend Open Days, external events and interviews as required by the Faculty Dean to support recruitment activities.</li><li>Actively engage with businesses/professional bodies/schools and colleges/communities/enterprises, etc., organize student outreach and invite industry speakers to enhance the student experience and facilitate industrial placement of students, as appropriate.</li><li>Organize, prepare and participate in university meetings and events including Boards of Examiners, Programme Reviews, Planning and Monitoring committees, Student/Staff Liaison, and faculty and university committees and policy developments.</li><li>Work with the Faculty Dean and other University representatives to ensure student attainment, success and progression by monitoring student attendance and performance, and obtaining student feedback.</li><li>Any other duties as deemed necessary by the Line Manager.</li></ul><p>While we value the interest shown by every applicant, we are able to respond only to short-listed candidates.</p><p>The job description may be altered at any time in the future in line with the level of the post to meet changing institutional requirements, but only in full consultation with the post-holder.</p><p>Applicants are required to submit a current CV and a cover letter outlining their suitability for the position. <p>Conduct routine plant rounds and inspect assigned process areas. Support system walk-downs, punch-list clearance and mechanical completion activities. Participate in flushing, blowing, loop checking, leak testing and functional testing during commissioning. Perform equipment and process line-ups according to approved operating procedures. Operate field equipment associated with the reduction shaft/reactor, process gas circuit, Process Gas Heater and material-handling systems. Start and stop pumps, fans and other auxiliaries as instructed by the control room. Monitor equipment for leaks, unusual vibration, noise, temperature or other abnormalities. Read local gauges and instruments and communicate field readings to the Panel Operator. Assist during plant start-up, stabilization and shutdown activities. Support equipment isolation and reinstatement in coordination with operations and maintenance. Maintain field logbooks and operating checklists. Follow strict safety precautions when working around natural gas, hydrogen-rich reducing gas and carbon monoxide. Immediately report unsafe conditions, gas leaks, equipment abnormalities and process deviations. <p>Lead and coordinate all DRI plant activities during the assigned shift. Participate in project execution, equipment installation verification, system walk-downs, punch-list clearance and mechanical completion. Review P&IDs, process flow diagrams, operating philosophies, equipment specifications and control narratives. Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities including flushing, blowing, hydrotesting, leak testing, loop checking and equipment trials. Lead plant start-up, stabilization, normal operation and planned/emergency shutdown activities. Monitor and optimize major process areas including the reduction reactor/shaft furnace, Process Gas Heater (PGH), process gas circuit, CO removal system, natural-gas system, water-treatment facilities and associated utilities. Ensure process parameters remain within operating limits to achieve required DRI/HBI quality and production targets. Coordinate closely with panel operators, field operators, maintenance, electrical, instrumentation, laboratory and other supporting functions. Identify process deviations and equipment abnormalities and lead first-line troubleshooting. Ensure strict compliance with Permit to Work, LOTO, confined-space, gas-safety and other HSE procedures. Maintain accurate shift logs, production reports, abnormality reports and shift handover documentation. Develop and review SOPs, operating checklists and emergency operating procedures. Coach and supervise operators and ensure effective allocation of manpower during shifts. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to plant availability, productivity, energy efficiency and operational reliability.</p><p><strong>Desired Candidate Profile</strong></p><p>Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering/Science or Diploma in Chemical Engineering or equivalent. Minimum 8 years' relevant experience for degree holders or 12 years for diploma holders. At least 3 years' experience as a Shift Production Supervisor/Shift In-Charge in a DRI or comparable continuous-process facility. Strong preference for experience in Tenova HYL/Energiron and/or Midrex DRI plants. Previous greenfield, brownfield expansion, revamp or commissioning experience is highly desirable. Strong understanding of DRI process chemistry, reducing-gas systems, natural-gas handling, CO removal, water treatment and process utilities. <p>The Senior Panel Operator will be responsible for controlling and optimizing the DRI facility from the Central Control Room during commissioning, start-up, normal operation and shutdown. This is a critical control-room position requiring strong knowledge of DRI process behaviour, DCS operation, alarms, interlocks, process troubleshooting and emergency response. Key Responsibilities Operate and monitor the DRI plant through the PCS7 Distributed Control System (DCS). Participate in DCS/PLC loop checking, functional testing, interlock testing and Site Acceptance Testing. Monitor major process sections including the reactor/reduction shaft, PGH, process gas circuit, CO removal, HBI system and water-treatment facilities.
