<p>Reporting to: Director of Exploration Execution Work Base: Muscat, Oman (field-rotational) Role Objective: MDO is seeking a highly capable, field-oriented Principal Geologist for its Base & Precious Metals division to lead exploration programmes that identify, test and advance copper-gold, chromite and associated base metal deposits in Oman s underexplored geological terranes, and to support MDO s international exploration portfolio. This is a hands-on technical leadership role, not a desk-based one. The successful candidate will spend a substantial proportion of their time in the field mapping, logging, supervising drilling and sampling campaigns, and setting the technical standard for the crews working alongside them. Reporting to the Director of Exploration Execution, the Principal Geologist will apply deep expertise in prospect generation, target maturation and the evaluation of greenfield and brownfield projects, taking targets from concept through to drill-tested and, where warranted, resource definition. The role also provides technical support to the Business Development (BD) and Project Development (PD) teams across scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility, project assessment, remediation and closure phases, and carries direct responsibility for mentoring and building the capability of MDO s Omani geologists. Duties and Responsibilities: Field Exploration & Technical Delivery 1. Personally lead and supervise field exploration activities, setting the standard for technical quality, safety and data discipline on site. 2. Undertake and direct geological mapping at prospect to district scale, including structural, lithological and alteration mapping, trenching and outcrop logging. 3. Design and supervise rock chip, channel, soil, stream sediment and pXRF sampling programmes, ensuring representative sampling and full chain of custody. 4. Supervise RC and diamond drilling campaigns on site: rig supervision, geological and geotechnical logging, core orientation, density determination, sampling and dispatch. 5. Own field QA/QC insertion and monitoring of standards, blanks and duplicates, laboratory submissions, results validation and corrective action where performance falls outside limits. 6. Ensure all field data is captured, validated and loaded to the corporate database (MX Deposit) to MDO data standards, with no unresolved validation errors. Target Generation & Programme Planning 7. Generate, rank and mature exploration targets by integrating geological mapping, geochemistry, ground and airborne geophysics, remote sensing and historical data. 8. Prepare drill-ready target packages with documented geological rationale, ranking criteria, expected tonnage-grade range and testing strategy. 9. Plan and execute regional and prospect-scale programmes, including scheduling, resourcing, logistics and permitting. 10. Prepare annual exploration programmes and budgets and support the Director of Exploration Execution and CXO in budget preparation, forecasting and expenditure tracking against plan. 11. Manage drilling, geophysical, survey, assay and consultancy contractors scopes of work, technical evaluation of bids, supervision and performance management. Resource, Reporting & Governance 12. Build and maintain geological and mineralisation domain models (Leapfrog Geo) as inputs to Mineral Resource estimation, and work with the resource team on estimation and reconciliation . 13. Prepare technical reports and documentation to JORC 2012, NI 43-101 and similar standards, including supporting Table 1 disclosure. 14. Initiate, lead, coordinate and review scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies with the BD and PD teams and external consultants, interrogating consultant recommendations against project value rather than accepting them on technical grounds alone. 15. Prepare and contribute monthly, quarterly and annual reports, stage-gate submissions and presentations for management, the Investment & Technical Committee and the Ministry of Energy and Minerals (MEM). 16. The Enterprise Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) is a core platform within the architect s portfolio.</p><p>The role provides technical direction across the application landscape: it defines reference architectures and CI/CD and deployment standards, governs solution designs (internal and vendor), and ensures changes meet security, records, and data-governance requirements.</p><p>The position will act in accordance with the OQEP s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, QHSE & Energy Management System requirements standards, Omani s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.</p><b>Main Tasks and Responsibilities</b><p>Solution Architecture & Design</p><p>Define and maintain reference architectures, solution designs, integration designs, and data-flow diagrams for the enterprise application portfolio, including EDRMS.</p><p>Translate business requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions, selecting appropriate patterns and technologies.</p><p>Provide hands-on design, prototyping, and proof-of-concept work to validate architecture decisions and de-risk delivery.</p><p>Architecture Governance & Standards</p><p>Define, maintain, and enforce solution-design, coding, and integration standards and technical guardrails across applications.</p><p>Operate design-authority / solution-review gates: review and approve internal and vendor technical designs against architecture, security, and data-governance principles.</p><p>Maintain Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and ensure changes follow change-management, access-control, audit, and IT-governance requirements; provide architecture input to audits and assurance reviews.</p><p>Delivery Standards & CI/CD</p><p>Define the CI/CD strategy and standards (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) covering source control, branching, automated build/test, code quality, and artifact management.</p><p>Set expectations for automated testing and security scanning (SAST/DAST/dependency) within pipelines, and govern adherence across teams and vendors.</p><p>Guide engineers and vendors in implementing pipelines to the agreed standard, and review delivery practices for quality and consistency.</p><p>Deployment & Release Strategy</p><p>Own deployment architecture and environment strategy (development, test, staging, production), including environment promotion and configuration management.</p><p>Define release governance deployment runbooks, rollback/back-out plans, and post-deployment verification and oversee controlled releases of significant changes.</p><p>Coordinate change windows and cutovers with IT Operations, Infrastructure, Database, Cybersecurity, and vendor teams to protect availability and performance.</p><p>EDRMS / ECM Platform Architecture</p><p>Own the architecture and roadmap of the EDRMS platform (e.g. OpenText Documentum, D2, Content Server, or similar) as a core managed platform.</p><p>Design document-management workflows, metadata models, taxonomy, classification, retention rules, access controls, and integration points, ensuring records compliance and data quality.</p><p>Direct migration, indexing, metadata improvement, OCR, and search-optimisation activities, working with specialist engineers and vendors for deep configuration and build.</p><p>Integration Architecture</p><p>Design secure, resilient integrations between EDRMS / business applications and ERP (e.g. SAP), SharePoint/M365, databases, portals, and identity-management systems using APIs, web services, and connectors.</p><p>Define standards for authentication, error handling, monitoring, and data quality across integrations.</p><p>Technical Leadership, Support Oversight & Vendor Management</p><p>Act as technical authority and escalation point for complex incidents, performance problems, and integration issues, ensuring solutions are supportable and root causes are addressed without owning first-line incident resolution.</p><p>Coordinate with vendors, review technical deliverables for quality and compliance, and follow up on support and enhancement activities.</p><p>Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to internal teams and business users, and identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve usability, efficiency, and reliability.</p><p>Perform other related duties as assigned.</p><b>Key interactions</b><p>Internal: IDS & CI function, IT Operations, Infrastructure, Database, and Cybersecurity functions, business application owners and users across all OQEP functions and streams.</p><p>External: Software and platform vendors (EDRMS/ECM vendors, ERP vendors), system integrators, specialist technical consultants.</p><br><p></p></div></section><section><p class="heading">Desired Candidate Profile</p><p class="paragraph"><b>Education Requirements</b><br>Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field.<br>Preferred: Postgraduate qualification or professional certifications such as TOGAF, Azure Solutions Architect, OpenText/Documentum certification, or equivalent;
