<p>The FAO Representation in Oman works closely with the Government of Oman and other national and development partners to support the country s priorities in food and agriculture, sustainable natural resource management, climate resilience, and related areas, in line with FAO s mandate and the Country Programming Framework. FAO Oman implements and supports a range of programmes and initiatives in collaboration with national counterparts and other stakeholders, with the aim of contributing to sustainable agricultural development, food security, and resilient food systems. Within this context, the Communication Assistant will support FAO Oman in effectively communicating its programmes, activities, results, partnerships, and key messages to relevant stakeholders and the wider public. The position will contribute to strengthening the visibility and outreach of FAO s work in Oman and ensuring that communication materials and activities are aligned with FAO s corporate communication standards and the country office s priorities. The incumbent will work as part of the FAO Oman team and will coordinate, as required, with relevant colleagues at the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa (FAO-RNE), FAO Headquarters, and other FAO offices and communication focal points.</p><p><strong>Reporting Lines</strong></p><p>The Communications Assistant will work under the overall supervision of the Head of FAO Oman Office and will receive day-to-day guidance from the designated supervisor/communication focal point. The role ensures the reliability, availability, efficiency, and safe operation of generating units, desalination systems, auxiliary equipment, and balance-of-plant assets.</p><p><strong>ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p><ul><li>Troubleshooting Faulty Machinery: Stay aware of anything unusual, troubleshoot faulty machinery and diagnose the root cause of the malfunction using diagnostic tools and problem-solving abilities.</li><li>Mechanical Preventive and Corrective maintenance: performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the power and water plant. This includes inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling rotating and static equipment such as pumps, compressors, valves, fans, heat exchangers, gearboxes, and associated auxiliary systems.</li><li>Contractor Management: Coordinate and supervise contractor personnel performing mechanical maintenance activities within the plant. Systems</p><ul><li>Maintain and troubleshoot communication between Liebherr Automation Servers, STS/RTG cranes, Remote Operator Stations (ROS), Engineering Workstations, and the Terminal Operating System (TOS).</li><li>Support and maintain the wireless/radio communication network used for remote operation of RTGs, ensuring reliable communication between the RTGs, ROS stations, and central automation servers.</li><li>Diagnose and resolve communication failures, latency, synchronization issues, and network interruptions affecting crane operation.</li></ul><p>Industrial Networks</p><ul><li>Maintain and troubleshoot industrial communication networks including Fiber Optic networks, Industrial Ethernet, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, managed switches, routers, wireless access points, and communication gateways.</li><li>Ensure high network availability, redundancy, cybersecurity, and reliable data exchange between automation devices.</li></ul><p>Camera & Vision Systems</p><ul><li>Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot all crane camera and vision systems, including spreader, trolley, boom, gantry, hoist, anti-collision, OCR, and CCTV cameras.</li><li>Ensure reliable video transmission, recording, and display at Remote Operator Stations.</li><li>Coordinate calibration, replacement, and commissioning of cameras and vision equipment.</li></ul><p>System Integration</p><ul><li>Support integration and communication between crane automation systems, PLCs, SCADA, ROS, TOS, CMMS, drive systems, anti-collision systems, positioning systems, and other terminal operational technologies.</li><li>Work closely with OEMs and IT to ensure seamless integration of new automation technologies and software upgrades.</li></ul><p>CMMS & Reliability</p><ul><li>Develop preventive maintenance plans for automation systems using the CMMS.</li><li>Record maintenance activities, software revisions, equipment history, and recurring failures.</li><li>Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.</li></ul><p>Cybersecurity & Data Integrity</p><ul><li>Support OT cybersecurity by maintaining secure user access, backup procedures, antivirus protection, network segmentation, and disaster recovery plans.</li><li>Ensure automation software, PLC programs, and server configurations are securely backed up and protected against unauthorized access.</li></ul><p>Technical Support & Continuous Improvement</p><ul><li>Provide technical support during equipment breakdowns and commissioning activities.</li><li>Lead automation fault investigations and recommend system improvements to increase equipment availability and operational Profile</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Automation Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.</li><li>Professional certification in PLC programming, industrial automation, or control systems is preferred.</li><li>Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation or electrical control systems, preferably within a container terminal, port, or heavy industrial environment.</li><li>Proven experience with semi-automated STS and RTG cranes and OEM automation systems (e.g., Liebherr, Siemens, ABB, Konecranes, or ZPMC).</li><li>Hands-on experience with PLC, SCADA, HMI, VFDs, industrial networks, automation servers, Remote Operator Stations (ROS), radio communication systems, camera systems, and Terminal Operating System (TOS) integration.</li><li>Experience using CMMS/EAM systems (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Hexagon) for maintenance planning and asset management.</li><li>Strong troubleshooting, commissioning, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and contractor/OEM coordination experience.</li></ul>

<h4>Primary responsibility</h4>
<p>Lead a team(s) of materials corrosion engineers to carry out the materials activities to generate relevant deliverables on time, meeting QMS requirement according to client requirements.<br>
Able to handle efficiently multiple projects. Ensure design integrity and deliverables quality for all areas within a project with special emphasis on interfaces.<br>
Ability to develop CTR based on scope of work and provide input to finalize the project execution schedule.<br>
Manage work assignments, workload, work forecasting for assigned projects.<br>
Participate in HAZID, design reviews, HAZOPs, IPF classifications, HSE related workshops. Implement, practice, and monitor quality management system in assigned projects in line with ISO 9001.<br>
Ensure seamless handover of deliverables to project teams.<br>
Manage and control all interfaces of the related discipline with other disciplines and design product suppliers.<br>
Liaise with vendors, contractors, and other client personnel to satisfy the various aspects of the project.<br>
Preparation of requisitions and technical evaluation of subsequent bids for discipline material and equipment purchases and SACP and ICCP cathodic protection systems.<br>
Ensure designs are executed in line with international, client, and company specifications, standards, and procedures.<br>
Provide feedback on improvement to the applicable design standards.</p>

<li>Experience in all ranges of metallic and non-metallic materials.</li>
<li>Lead the material selection and corrosion control strategy for onshore oil and gas projects.</li>
<li>Conduct technical reviews of project specifications, designs, and engineering deliverables to ensure alignment with project requirements.</li>
<li>Identify, evaluate, and recommend materials suitable for various operating environments, considering factors like temperature, pressure, and corrosive media.</li>
<li>Develop and implement corrosion protection systems, including coatings, cathodic protection, and chemical treatment solutions.</li>
<li>Supervise and guide a multidisciplinary engineering team to meet project objectives and deadlines.</li>
<li>Coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.</li>
<li>Monitor project progress and ensure technical accuracy, cost control, and adherence to schedules.</li>
<li>Perform detailed failure analysis, risk assessments, and life-cycle evaluations for materials and equipment.</li>
<li>Prepare and deliver comprehensive technical reports, specifications, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.</li>
<li>Provide expertise in corrosion monitoring techniques and ensure implementation during project phases.</li>
<li>Ensure all engineering activities comply with standards and quality assurance procedures.</li>
<li>Support internal and external audits and address any findings related to materials and corrosion management.</li>
<li>Train and mentor junior engineers to build technical capabilities within the team.</li>

<h4>Education, qualification & experience</h4>
<p>Degree in relevant engineering subject (B.Sc., B.Eng., M.Sc.); chemical, mechanical, materials.<br>
Senior engineer / engineer shall have membership of an internationally accepted applicable professional body.<br>
Minimum 15 years of experience in oil & gas.<br>
Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering design (concept, FEED, detailed design & operations).<br>
Experience in the Middle East is preferred.</p>
