The Shift Engineer is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all engineering and maintenance activities during an assigned shift to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted hotel operations. This role ensures that guest comfort, safety, and asset protection are maintained in accordance with Crowne Plaza and IHG brand standards.


YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:


  • Supervise all engineering operations and maintenance activities during the assigned shift.
  • Respond promptly to engineering issues, breakdowns, and guest maintenance requests.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed and completed efficiently.
  • Monitor operation of all hotel systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire & life safety, and BMS.
  • Coordinate and assign tasks to technicians and ensure work is completed to required standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, fire, and environmental regulations, including hotel SOPs and local authority requirements.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, maintenance records, and handover reports.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure minimal disruption to hotel operations.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer with energy management, cost control, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Support emergency procedures and act as the engineering point of contact during the shift.
  • Train, guide, and motivate engineering team members as required.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:


  • Diploma or technical certification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in hotel engineering or facilities management, with supervisory exposure preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, and fire & life safety systems.
  • Experience working in a luxury or international hotel brand is an advantage.
  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting ability
  • Good communication and reporting skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage shift priorities
  • Strong understanding of safety and compliance standards
  • Flexible to work rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays
