Role Objective
The Taxation and Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing all tax-related activities while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. The role includes conducting tax advisory and planning, reconciliation, tax filings and payments and addressing audit issues related to all direct and indirect taxes (corporate tax, deferred tax, capital gain, value added tax and withholding tax). Furthermore, the Taxation and Compliance Manager plays a key role in optimizing the Oman Air’s utilization of international bilateral corporate taxation exemptions, monitoring OECD BEPS implications, identifying and mitigating all tax risks through the implementation of key strategies and managing transfer pricing. This role is crucial to maintaining financial integrity and compliance with regulations throughout Oman Air’s transformation and beyond.
Duties and Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
1. Manage the airline’s corporate tax planning strategies, policies, and assess the implication on Oman Air’s financials including ensuring compliance, transparency and proper disclosure.
2. Oversee the overall taxation transactions and strategic process for Oman Air including tax advisory, planning, tax structures, required methodologies/processes across all aspects of the organization (e.g., aircraft transactions, contractual agreements, loyalty programs, holidays, etc.)
3. Oversee compliance with taxation laws, including income tax, assessments, tax objections, VAT, withholding tax, capital gain and other applicable international and local taxes.
4. Continuously review and remain up to date on tax regulation changes with timely implementation of changes required.
5. Manage the development and submission of tax returns in line with statutory requirements and keep abreast of any tax regulation changes to ensure timely and accurate tax filings
6. Analyze and evaluate tax-related risks and develop strategies to mitigate them including implementing and enforcing strong internal controls to uphold tax compliance and proactively reduce associated risks.
7. Oversee the airline’s representation within IATA’s tax working groups, if applicable
8. Manage the complexity of tax transaction Oman Air’s changing business and transformation including assessing tax risks and mitigations, and integrating strategies to maximize tax benefits (e.g., intermediary holding platforms)
9. Lead the tax technology and business process improvement, including system implementations and other changes impacting taxation, supported by the financial systems and automation department to streamline and reduce the time and resources dedicated to direct and indirect tax compliance / reporting.
10. Ensure proper distinction between exempt and non-exempt tax activities.
11. Develop a process and check list for all tax related deadlines, submission for intime and accurate tax reporting’s / tax returns submissions and country wise tax implications / complexities.
12. Monthly update, at minimum, to Leadership on tax exposures and issues.
13. On time response to stakeholder’s emails and requests without significant delays and inform the management in time in case of any delays or unusual events.
14. Ensure that tax reporting and returns submission is submitted on time with accuracy and without any penalties.
15. Support all tax registration processes within Oman and across all outstations, as applicable.
16. Work closely with the auditing team during tax audits and examination periods.
17. Manage all tax-related disputes, working closely with the General Counsel department to resolve any disagreement.
18. Manage a team of tax and compliance analysts and provide them with guidance, support, and training, as required and KPIs.
19. Collaborate with the Tax Authority of Oman, CAA and other relevant entities to ensure accurate and timely filings, address any inquiries or issues and establish a working group to help navigate regulatory requirements specific to the aviation industry.
Education & Experience
➢ 8+ years of financial, accounting or taxation experience with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a tax related managerial role in the aviation industry is a strong plus Bachelor’s degree in taxation, finance or accounting (mandatory). professional accounting accreditation (eg CTA, CA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, etc) .
In-depth knowledge of tax laws, regulations and compliance requirements including proficiency in tax software and financial reporting tools.

Special Skills & Knowledge
Strong financial acumen and familiarity with tax management and compliance roles, preferably in the aviation industry
Experience developing and implementing tax planning strategies to optimize the organization's tax position including proficiency managing tax compliance and conducting tax filings and reporting.
In-depth financial analysis skills, including identifying trends, variances and opportunities for improvement.
Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
