Job Summary
Performs the planning, system design, system implementation, system maintenance and support. Lead small to medium scale Sustainability projects and the roll out of engineering initiatives. Assists with development and implementation of engineering design standards, policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Plans and directs day to day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either a project or delivery of operations for an data centre facility.
Responsibilities
Project Management
- Leads, manages and executes Sustainability projects or other design and engineering initiatives
- Provides guidance and project leadership in ensuring project or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations
System Operation and Work Practices (incl Capacity Planning)
- Interacts with other engineering, design and construction disciplines
- Works with the capacity and site engineering teams to resolve power and/or cooling limitations and optimize resource utilization
- Liaise with the Artificial Intelligence developing team, to coordinate pilot projects and optimization exercises using DCIM data to improve Energy Efficiency
- Engage with Global Design & Construction team to review cooling designs for new data centres. Support for the configuration of Mechanical Equipment/Systems, and subsequent adjustments as IT load increases
- Raise awareness of local operations teams on good energy efficiency practices in cooling, following the guidelines of the Centre of Excellence
- Lead air flow management & cooling optimization, detecting & implementing improvements
- Responsible for Sustainability KPIs monitoring and improvement
- Prepare feasibility studies for projects (e.g.: reconfiguration of the Mechanical Equipment/Systems settings)
Leadership and Communications (incl Vendor Mgmt)
- Contributes to mentoring junior team members
- Directs all internal and external project team members
- Directs external vendors per project or initiative such as General Contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc
Support, Recommendations and Problem Solving
- Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve
- Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems
- Tests suitability of components or action plans for deployments
- Provides support to local Ops Engineering teams to manage and optimize air flow and Mechanical Equipment/Systems settings
Training
- Contributes to identifying and developing training programs
- Acquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training, participation in industry groups or meetings and shadowing others
- Is SME with many systems and trains others inside and outside of the group in cooling optimization & operation
Technical Expertise
- Has an expert level system knowledge
- Is a subject matter expert to others in and outside of the group
- Extensive knowledge of multiple facets of the relevant engineering discipline
- Leads internal and/or external engineering or construction related seminars/conferences

Knowledge and Experience
- Degree in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or relevant discipline with 5+ experience within HVAC system from data centre/ critical environment industry
- Strong technical background. Mechanical Engineering
- Have experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally and externally
- Expert operating knowledge of engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairs
- Ability to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures and industry standards to resolve non-routine issues
- Utilizes safe working practices at an EXPERT level (e.g., can apply procedure for lockout/tag out, can explain MSDS, etc.). Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others
- Familiar with BMS, being able to analyze and review control strategies for Mechanical Equipment/Systems
