Roles & Responsibilities

Be in total charge of control room activities during shift for power and distribution Dispatch functions, guide and supervise the work of other shift duty persons if available.

Planning and coordination of operations to include preparation of switching programs, analysis of operational risk and decision making.

Prepare and submit short term load forecasts unconstrained and constrained dispatch schedules, and planned load profile of power stations in advance.

Having a robust emergency contingency plan in place

Prevention of disturbances arising from suitable planning and timely decisions

Carrying out SCADA operations to include commissioning the equipment, coordinating maintenance programs, and responding to any trouble shooting requirements.

Ensure compliance with Scheduling and Dispatching Code, Metering Code, Automatic Generation and Control, Reactive and Active Power Dispatch

Dispatch of power production facilities and Management of Load to ensure reliable and economic generation in line with requirements of BSA, PPA's, Load Management, and Industry coding and system stability.

Coordinate power and Load

Management with all parties involved in real time, IPPs, Gencos, Discos, Water Department and External Utilities.

Monitor, analyze and modify dispatch in real time to ensure reliable operation and analyze line flows.

Analyze and report power exchanges.

Verify monthly outage statistics for the purpose of invoicing by OPWP.

To study approved short notice outages and planned outages and give final clearance

Control of issue of safety documents, permits to work, limitation of access and sanctions for testing.

Sharing skills and experience with colleagues and supporting the development of others through coaching where possible

Carry out detailed operational incident investigations and produce reports, including root cause analysis.

Prepare and issue daily operational reports and other reports as required.

Provide coaching, guidance, on-job training, and other vocational support to Musandam control engineers, graduate trainees or other personnel as required.

Desired Candidate Profile

B. Tech /B. E in Electrical Engineering / Power

Minimum 2-3 years experience in electrical utilities in real time operations of system control (Omani)

Good knowledge of Safety procedures, in particular Electrical Safety Rules

Working knowledge of Automatic Generation control & Energy Management Systems

Proven capability to implement Grid Code & System Operation Procedures in electrical utilities.

Good communication and writing skills & computer skills.
