Job description
Role Summary
- We are looking for an exceptional, driven, and commercially
sharp Financial Controller to own and elevate the financial control environment
at Masar Petroleum. This is a high-impact role for a technically rigorous
finance professional who combines deep expertise in financial controls,
management reporting, and systems thinking with the hunger to grow into a
future finance leader. The role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer
(CFO).
- This is not a maintenance role. We want someone who will
look at what exists, ask how to make it better — and then go and do it.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and continuously strengthen the internal
control framework across financial reporting, expenditure, and asset
management.
- Ensure full compliance with IFRS, local regulatory
requirements, and Masar’s financial policies and procedures.
- Lead and coordinate all external and internal audit
processes end-to-end; serve as the primary point of contact for external
auditors, internal audit teams, and regulatory inspectors throughout the audit
cycle.
- Own the control environment for upstream cost tracking,
joint venture accounting, and production-linked financials.
- Deliver timely, accurate, and insightful management reports
to the CFO and senior leadership team that go beyond numbers — telling the real
story of business performance.
- Build and own a management reporting framework including
dashboards, KPI trackers, and variance analyses that are genuinely useful for
operational and strategic decision-making.
- Partner with operations, projects, and commercial teams to
provide financial context and challenge assumptions constructively.
- Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
with discipline and efficiency.
- Lead the annual budget cycle and rolling forecasts in close
collaboration with department heads; build robust cost models for drilling,
well services, and field operations with scenario planning capability.
- Own the integrity of the ERP and financial systems; drive
improvements to enhance control, reporting efficiency, and process
standardisation as Masar grows.
- Lead, coach, and develop the finance team, creating a
high-performance culture built on accuracy, accountability, and continuous
improvement.
RequirementsRequired Qualifications & Experience
- Omani National — mandatory requirement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related
field; CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent professional qualification required.
- Minimum 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at
least 4 years in a financial control or senior finance role.
- Upstream oil and gas experience strongly preferred; exposure
to joint venture accounting and production-linked financials is a significant
advantage.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing internal
controls and financial governance frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or
similar) and financial reporting tools; experience leading ERP rollouts within
the finance function is an advantage.
- Deep knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting standards
applicable in Oman.
Leadership & Personal Attributes
- A decisive, inspiring leader who leads by example and
develops talent around them.
- Hungry to grow — someone who sees this role as a stepping
stone, not a final destination; energised by challenge and driven to take on
more.
- A builder’s mindset: energised by creating structure and
systems where things are not yet fully formed.
- Commercially astute with the gravitas to engage and
influence at C-suite level.
- Meticulous and detail-oriented, yet able to zoom out and
communicate the big picture with clarity.
- Uncompromising in integrity, governance, and ethical
financial standards.
- Thrives under pressure, manages competing priorities, and
consistently delivers results.
Reporting Structure
- This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer
(CFO) with close collaboration across Operations, Projects, Legal, and
Contracts & Procurement functions. The position carries direct line
management responsibility over the financial reporting and accounting team.
