Service Purpose:
The Laboratory Specialist will be part of the team for the Bunkering Project. In this critical role, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of preparing all necessary laboratory equipment, Manuals and Operating Procedures, and ensuring the laboratory is available and fully operational for plant Start-up: personnel, equipment and adequate supply of chemicals and consumables. You will report directly to the Commissioning & Start-up Methods Lead.
The Laboratory Specialist shall develop and implement the permanent Laboratory Information Management System. You shall also ensure mentorship and training of the routine operation laboratory personnel.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
1. Project Phase
1.1 Commissioning and Start-up preparation:
o As the company lab specialist, ensure design meets all the operational and HSE requirements.
o Organize laboratory equipment reception and equipment storage. Follow-up on missing and downgraded equipment with CONTRACTOR and / or Vendor commissioning procedures, test plans, and system handover documentation.
o Actively participate in the laboratory pre-commissioning and commissioning. Record punch items and follow-up on punch list clearance with the objective of ensuring the laboratory is available to support LNG plant start-up.
o Identify potentially required specific analyses which will not be possible on site, and elaborate means and procedures to perform those analyses (sub-contracting to third party laboratories).
o Review and adjust (with equipment Vendor), calibration of all the laboratory equipment.
1.2 Commissioning and start-up execution:
o Supervise Commissioning of all the laboratory equipment.
o Ensures Laboratory is available and fully operational for LNG plant start-up: personnel, equipment and adequate supplies of chemicals and consumables.
o Implement laboratory waste handling in line with site waste management philosophy validated by the HSE department.
o During early operation, supervising all laboratory work methods, test analyses, data interpretation, analysis of products quality (LNG and Condensates), refrigerant and effluent waste.
o During early operation, direct and co-ordinate all sampling and testing activities of laboratory, including determining methods of analysis, problem solving and troubleshooting upcoming issues.
o Handover an established and fully operational laboratory facility to the routing laboratory operation.
o Assistance for closed loop start-up and monitoring of the fluid quality inside.
o Participate to commissioning activities: Network cleanliness monitoring during flushing operation (closed loops, chemical injection lines …); lubricant or hydraulic fluids cleanliness analysis
Professional Experience:
o +15 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry with a full understanding of laboratory activities and procedures, expertise in laboratory discipline. Experience in projects with large onshore plants and LNG plants is a plus.
o Experience in similar position (years): + 5 years in an LNG plant laboratory in a supervisory role in a multi-cultural environment.
Education requirements:
o Master’s Degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering.
Language requirements:
o Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required). Arabic is a plus.
