The Construction Manager will be a highly experienced mining industry executive to take a copper-gold project through construction and commissioning phases. The project involves the construction of facilities for five open pits, mineral processing plants, camp facilities, and all associated infrastructure.
The role requires a history of achievement of previous construction roles in mineral processing industries. The incumbent will also need skills in working with multi-cultural work groups and be able to communicate effectively with diverse cultural teams.
Main Tasks, Duties And Responsibilities:
- Liaise and guide the EPCM contractor and their sub-contractors.
- Ensure good relationships are maintained between Company, the EPCM contractor and other contractors.
- Ensure communication between Company and Contractors stays open and all required information is shared between the Company and all work groups.
- Routine reporting of project progress (budget, schedule, quality) milestones to Company management.
- Report any variations for the project (HSEC, budget, schedule, quality) to Company management in a prompt manner. Act where necessary.
- Identify any areas for improvement and flag them to the contractor and/or Company management as required.
- Lead the Construction Owners team and direct resources as required to effectively oversee the EPCM contract and other contractors.
- Lead managed construction activities that may occur outside of the main EPCM contract.
- Champion risk-based management of the project for the Owners team. Lead initiatives for hazard identification and risk reduction such as HAZOPs, risk assessments, inspections. Involve all participants including the EPCM contractor and their sub-contractors.
- Ensure that all HSE instructions are fully understood and complied with.
- Must lead the HSE standards on site during construction and commissioning and ensure that everyone understands and follows the Company standards and procedures.
- Must demonstrate total commitment to the company safety policies through participation and proactive involvement.
- Must ensure that all relevant safety procedures and practices are followed during performing operations.
- Responsible for reporting HSE incident, near misses and violation to immediate supervisor or through Safety System software as appropriate.
- Responsible to participate in safety meetings and safety drills held on board and ensures operations abide by established/HSE operating procedures and practices and equipment is used within predetermined capacities.
Requirements
Minimum Qualification :
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Civil) or construction related qualifications preferred but not essential. Postgraduate qualification in Project Management an advantage
Experience:
- Minimum 15 years of experience, preferably in mining construction management with at least 5 years as the lead construction position.
- Experience in establishing new teams, people, and systems an advantage.
- Experience with delivery construction projects preferably in the mineral processing industry, particularly in projects of greater than OMR 100million (USD $260million) capex
