Job Summary:

The Senior Legal Counsel will provide strategic and operational legal support for real estate development projects in Oman. Acting on behalf of the client (developer), this role ensures compliance with local laws, mitigates legal risks, and manages all contractual and regulatory matters related to land acquisition, development agreements, construction contracts, financing, and permitting.This role involves providing legal advisory and compliance support, managing contracts, overseeing permits and approvals, and ensuring corporate governance.



Key Responsibilities:


  • Legal Advisory & Compliance
    • Advise on all legal aspects of real estate development projects, including land acquisition, zoning, planning, and regulatory compliance.
    • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes in Oman and assess their impact on the company’s operations.
    • Ensure compliance with Omani laws, including commercial, property, and construction regulations.
  • Contract Management
    • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts: development agreements, design and consultancy contracts, EPC contracts, lease agreements, and joint ventures.
    • Provide legal input during tendering and procurement processes.
  • Permits & Approvals
    • Support the permitting process with local authorities and ensure timely approvals for development projects.
    • Liaise with government agencies and regulatory bodies on legal matters.
  • Risk Management
    • Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with project development, financing, and operations.
    • Manage disputes, claims, and litigation, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
  • Corporate Governance
    • Advise on shareholder agreements, constitutional documents, and compliance with corporate governance standards.
    • Prepare legal reports and updates for senior management and the board.



Requirements:


    • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); Master’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum 10 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 5 years in real estate development or construction law.
    • Strong knowledge of Omani property laws, commercial laws, and permitting processes.
    • Experience in drafting and negotiating complex contracts and managing external counsel.
    • Excellent communication skills in English (Arabic is an advantage).
