Job Title: Strategy Delivery - Specialist


JOB PURPOSE

  • Lead idea generation, initial analysis and business case development of strategic initiatives
  • Support the development and implementation of the long-term strategy of the Company
  • Development and maintenance of systems and procedures to implement, track and report on strategic projects
  • Tracking and reporting of strategic projects and initiatives



KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Apply knowledge of finance, the strategic drivers of the business and the operating context of Oman to lead idea generation, perform initial analysis and business case development of strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor and remain aware of key strategic issues faced by the Company.
  • Pro-actively monitor and remain aware of key changes in government policy, procedure and direction; communicate these to the BD&S Executive and incorporate these in the development and analysis of strategic initiatives.
  • Work with BD&S Executive and internal network to identify potential strategic initiatives, both informally and via formal idea generation sessions.
  • Perform initial analysis of potential strategic initiatives as agreed with the BD&S Executive.
  • Develop Business Cases for strategic initiatives or to support the approval decision for strategic projects under consideration by the IC, Exco or Board on an as requested basis.



Support the development and implementation of the Company strategy and Strategic Five-Year Plan and Annual Budget

  • Active involvement in the Company’s Annual Strategy Process with the Manager of Business Improvement and Strategy Manager and the Strategic Five-Year Plan with the Finance Manager, both to support these processes and to ensure that they are aligned with the long-term strategy of the company.
  • Feedback of key issues identified in the Annual Strategy Process, and the Strategic Five-Year Plan and Annual Budget that need to be considered in the long-term strategy and / or could be potential strategic initiatives.
  • Other activities to support the development and implementation of the Company strategy.



Effectively build formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organization

  • Create and strengthen a wide network to learn early about in-country developments and attain significant influence.
  • Build effective relationships with key external stakeholders, including government agencies, at a working level to facilitate flow of information and influence outcomes to align with the Company’s strategy.
  • Get to know the key members of Exco, the Management team, Superintendents and Specialists. Learn who to talk to; who to engage and who is key to facilitating change.
  • Apply communications and influencing skills to engage and motivate people of different cultures to act, even if the task is outside their normal routine.
  • Adjust communication style to meet the needs and experience level of different people.
  • Follow up to make sure action occurs. Maintain a system to track and monitor the work of others.



Maintain data on key strategic parameters

  • Identify and keep current a list of key strategic parameters as determined by the government agencies.
  • Develop a procedure for the calculation of key strategic parameters including In Country Value (ICV), GDP and Omanisation.
  • Keep the database on these key strategic parameters up to date.
  • Develop data on the key strategic parameters for competitor aluminium smelter projects and other large industrial users of gas or electricity to support negotiations.


Lead specific strategic initiatives

  • Lead specific strategic initiatives and strategic projects as assigned by the BD&S Executive.
  • This will often require the leadership of internal and external parties, which will have to be achieved by influence as opposed to authority.



Systems and procedures for strategic projects

  • Development of systems and procedures to implement, track and report on strategic projects.
  • Ongoing maintenance of the systems and procedures to ensure that they remain relevant and continue to meet the needs of the Company and the Shareholders.



Tracking and reporting of strategic projects

  • Ensure that the strategic projects and initiatives are recorded in the tracking and reporting systems.
  • Prepare summary reports on a quarterly basis for presentation to the BRC and Board.



Other activities to support the BD&S Executive and Exco

  • Provide additional support to the BD&S Executive and / or other members of Exco on an as requested basis by the BD&S Executive.


Action the SAC Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) procedures to

  • Maintain high EHS standards.
  • Action the SA EHS safety routines for his/her work area.
  • Action regular inspections to ensure safety. Raise notifications.
  • Maintain SA housekeeping standards (5S) in his/her work area.



QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Essential qualifications, experience and skills:


  • Degree in a Financial or Business discipline and 8 years of relevant business or strategy experience.
  • Ability to understand the strategic drivers of the business.
  • Capacity to develop strategic business cases.
  • Analytical, good leadership, excellent communication skills and interpersonal relations, high business acumen and a keen interest in understanding business and operations.



Generic Skills:

  • English language: Fluent in written and spoken English, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts in simple terms to those who may have intermediate-level English.
  • Arabic language: An Omani National with Arabic as their first language.


Interpersonal skills:

  • The ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, including with Exco and Shareholder representatives and externally with government agencies, at a working level.
  • The ability to achieve outcomes and lead teams via influence.
  • EHS: Commitment to EHS principles. The capacity to influence others to work safely.
