Objective
The Deputy CEO will play a key role in driving the day-to-day activities of the transformation, working directly with the CEO and senior management across all departments to facilitate change and enable delivery of performance targets which ensure the airline’s commercial viability, financial sustainability, and operational excellence. Position will allow a local Omani talent to be developed in aviation ecosystem to ensure adequate succession for the CEO position within 3-4 years
Accountability
Work closely with the CEO on defining / refining the business strategy of Oman Air, and support with implementing the strategic initiatives to deliver on the airline's strategic goals and objectives
Support with the regular review of the business strategy of Oman Air in response to changing market and industry conditions (e.g., increased competition)
Support with preparing timely airline performance updates to the BOD and senior government stakeholders on the delivery against the airline's strategy and ongoing strategic initiatives
Work with the executive management and transformation office to prepare periodic business plans including budget overview and business operations
Support with providing oversight on the financial performance of the airline including budgeting, financial planning, cost control, and financial reporting to ensure the airline's financial stability and profitability
Identify business development opportunities and areas where the airline can optimize revenue or costs
Support with providing oversight to the daily operations of the airline, ensuring operational efficiency and safety
Support with fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making across the airline’s departments
Provide guidance and advice to the CEO and executive management on various matters related to operations, finances, and commercial
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators and partners, and represent the airline, as required, externally with customers, regulators, shareholders, media, and the wider public
Support with addressing any issues or escalations across airline departments
Work hand-in-hand with the executive management to oversee Oman Air’s transformation, focusing on ensuring strong employee morale, communication, transparency and overall organization alignment
Support with attracting, retaining, and developing senior management layers and key talents within the organization while fostering a strong and inclusive work culture and environment throughout the company
Support with all departments to create a succession planning and performance management culture within the airline
Ensure all activities of the airline comply with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards and ensure sound corporate governance
Identify and manage risks that may impact the airline's operations and reputation, working closely with the risk management team to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and ensure compliance with regulations
In the case of mergers, acquisitions, or partnerships, support as required in the due diligence processes and negotiations alongside legal, finance, and other relevant teams to ensure a smooth transition
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business discipline, Business administration, Engineering, or related areas. Post-graduate degree such as MBA is preferrable.
- 10+ years of experience in leadership positions (C-suite or Director and above) in sizeable companies within or outside of Oman. It is a plus that the candidate has experience in Aviation.
- Must be an Omani National with a strong and deep willingness and ability to develop and upskill themselves
- Ideal Experience: Experience in financial management fundamentals and in developing and implementing financial strategy and analysis for companies
- Proven adaptability and Crisis Management skills; Highly creative and entrepreneurial with ability to respond to unexpected events and course correct
- Deep business knowledge, strategic thinking and ability to derive business insights for decision making
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategies to facilitate turnarounds of companies and lead financially sustainable companies
- Dynamic and motivational leader able to manage a multi-cultural team, with a commanding presence and excellent communication skills
- Self-starter, entrepreneurial mindset with experience in implementing disruptive and innovative business models
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships within the organization and with industry stakeholder
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment / transformational setting
