Job Description
The System Engineer designs, deploys, and supports systems to meet the technical needs of an organization. This includes managing servers, storage, network infrastructure, and software applications, while ensuring high availability, performance, and security. The ideal candidate is skilled in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving issues across complex IT environments and is capable of implementing solutions to improve system reliability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Architecture
- Design and configure IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage, and software applications.
- Develop scalable, resilient system architectures that meet organizational and performance requirements.
- Plan and implement system updates and upgrades to support evolving business needs.
System Implementation & Deployment
- Deploy and integrate systems across multi-site environments, ensuring seamless operation and compatibility.
- Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline deployment processes and reduce manual intervention.
Monitoring & Maintenance
- Set up monitoring tools and respond to alerts to maintain optimal system performance and availability.
- Conduct regular system audits to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact users.
- Manage backups, disaster recovery, and failover procedures to ensure data protection and business continuity.
Troubleshooting & Support
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to hardware, software, and network components.
- Provide Level 2 or 3 technical support to address escalated issues that frontline support teams cannot resolve.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and enforce security measures, including firewalls, encryption, and access controls, to protect systems from threats.
- Ensure all systems comply with relevant regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, GDPR) and organizational policies.
Documentation & Training
- Maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines.
- Train junior team members or support staff on system operation and best practices.
Skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: system engineering, network administration, or a similar role.
Key Skills
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Strong understanding of networking, storage solutions, and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation.
- Experience with monitoring and management tools (e.g., Nagios, Splunk, SolarWinds).
