Leak Detection Technician/Engineer - Veolia

The Role

As part of the Oman Veolia team for water leak detection, the Leak Detection Technician/Engineer will be responsible for conducting active leak detection activities during nighttime, when normal consumption is lower, and water pressure is higher. This increases the likelihood of detecting leaks, as they are more significant and noisier at night. On-site work will be complemented by regular reporting to the project manager. Key Responsibilities: Active Leak Detection Surveys:

  • Conduct water network surveys using tools such as acoustic measurement devices and pipe detectors to detect leaks.
  • Perform measurements on the network by installing flow or pressure instruments on pipes or tap points.
  • Proven experience in plumbing work on water networks is required. Reporting and Use of phone applications:
  • Document activities using a mobile app or by creating tables on a computer.
  • Provide regular reports to the project manager, summarizing information clearly through basic written reports or tables.

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Technician or Engineer with proven knowledge as described hereafter
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in leak detection on drinking water networks or experience with water network operations (basic knowledge of hydraulics is required: pressure, flow).
  • The Technician/Engineer should have a basic understanding of flow monitoring, leak detection, and knowledge of pipes, valves, pressure-reducing valves, and pressure and flow measurements. Other Skills/Competencies:
  • Familiar with using smartphones and computers, including familiarity with maps (google map for example).
  • Basic knowledge with using Excel or Google Sheets (tables) for data management and capable of writing basic reports in PowerPoint or Word.
  • Must be physically fit, as the job involves on-site work, including opening manholes and performing basic plumbing tasks, closing/opening network valves. Languages:
  • English is required. Arabic is a plus. Additional Skills:
  • Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is a plus.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • A good sense of organization and autonomy in the work is required
  • Excellent hearing in both ears is a must and may be subject to testing.
