Job Description Position Title: Cathodic Protection (CP) Engineer Department: Corrosion Control / Asset Integrity Reports To: Manager - Projects Location: Sultanate of Oman (with GCC project assignments) Job Type: Full-Time
1. Job Purpose
To provide technical expertise in the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of cathodic protection systems for pipelines, tank farms, wellhead flowlines, offshore platforms, and reinforced concrete structures. The CP Engineer ensures all CP systems are implemented and maintained in compliance with PDO, OQ, Aramco, ADNOC, and NACE/AMPP standards, supporting the long-term integrity and reliability of client assets across the GCC region.
2. Key Responsibilities
Design and implement impressed current and galvanic CP systems for onshore and offshore assets. Perform site surveys including soil resistivity testing, current requirement tests, and structure-to-electrolyte potential measurements. Conduct CP system commissioning, including rectifier setup, anode bed testing, and potential mapping. Supervise installation contractors, ensuring adherence to project specifications, HSE procedures, and QA/QC plans. Carry out routine monitoring, data logging, and troubleshooting of CP systems. Prepare and review design calculations, BOQs, as-built drawings, and technical reports. Provide technical support during audits, integrity assessments, and failure investigations. Ensure compliance with NACE/AMPP, ISO 15589, BS EN 12954, and company-specific standards (e.g., PDO SP-1128, Aramco 01-SAMSS-016). Participate in training and mentoring of junior CP technicians and engineers. Maintain awareness of the latest developments in corrosion mitigation and CP technology.
3. Minimum Qualifications
Education:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering (preferred). Diploma holders with proven CP experience may also be considered. Certification:NACE/AMPP Cathodic Protection Level 2 (Technologist) certification (mandatory). Level 3 (Specialist) certification will be an advantage. Experience:Minimum 3 years of hands-on field experience in CP systems within the oil & gas, water, or power sector. Demonstrated experience with rectifiers, anode beds, test posts, and remote monitoring systems (RMS). Knowledge & Skills:Thorough understanding of corrosion mechanisms and CP principles. Familiar with GCC environmental and soil conditions, and their impact on CP design and performance. Ability to perform on-site troubleshooting and system diagnostics. Strong communication skills and experience in multicultural team environments. Competent in Microsoft Office, CP data analysis tools, and Auto CAD (preferred). Valid GCC driving license and willingness to travel to remote desert or coastal sites.
4. Working Conditions
Field-based role with frequent travel across Oman and GCC countries. Work in desert, coastal, or offshore environments with adherence to company HSE policies. Occasional night or weekend work during shutdowns, commissioning, or urgent repairs.
