SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION


Position N+1: General Counsel


ACCOUNTABILITIES


An entry level position: working towards the role of Legal Counsel II on successful completion of an agreed 2-year training plan.

Learning to promote and protect the legal and commercial interests of the Company.

Learning to provide services to the Company in respect of its daily activities and general legal matters. Effectively participates in multidisciplinary teams formed for specific projects.


ACTIVITIES


HSE

Learn and observe Company’s HSE policy, rules and procedures.

Participation in HSE activities and global improvement.

Learn about the HSE legal framework in Qatar.


ACTIVITIES

Follow and carry out an agreed training plan to learn about NOC’s operations and the role of in[1]house counsel: which might include a mixture of on-the-job legal training, internal Division training, cross departmental training, training from external providers, and possibly internal and external secondments/missions.

Under the mentorship and guidance of the senior members of the Legal & Governance Division learn how to provide commercial and corporate legal services, in the area of operated activities to meet the needs of the Company and protect its legal and commercial interests, including providing accurate advice and guidance to colleagues on specific matters based on an understanding of the topic and precedence within the Division.

Carry out tasks as assigned by Legal Counsels, Senior Legal Counsels, General Counsel, and Compliance Officer.


CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT


Doha (Qatar) office.

Standard office hours, 5 days a week.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED


An honors degree in law.

This is a university graduate position. Time spent working in a law firm or in-house legal department as an intern would be advantageous.


TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES


None expected on joining but working towards an understanding of oil and gas legal issues, principles, and key drivers for both companies and contractors. The ability to convey and explain information, opinions, and arguments fluently and coherently and tailor reports to the requirements of the reader. The ability to manage activities, including management of own workload by obtaining appropriate input from multiple sources.


BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES


Must be adaptable, authentic, curious, energetic, collaborative, reliable and committed.


OTHER COMPETENCIES


Attention to detail and clear analytical ability. Fluent in English. Arabic would be advantageous.
