Overall Purpose

The MHPSS Officer supports implementing Medair’s MHPSS activities in the field through direct supervision, technical support, and coordination of community volunteers and implementing partners. The role ensures quality field delivery in line with Medair’s programmatic and donor objectives, under the strategic oversight of the MHPSS Manager.

 

 

 

Project Overview

 

This project targets the most vulnerable Syrian and non-Syrian asylum seekers and refugees, as well as vulnerable Jordanians residing in Amman, Jordan. It involves targeted activities across the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) spectrum to address the most critical needs identified within the served population.

In addition, the MHPSS Officer will collaborate with partners to identify individuals in need and refer them to appropriate services.

 

Coordinates with

MHPSS officers, Community Volunteers, MEAL officer, partnership officer, information management officer, CBOs/Local NGOs staff, team leader, logistic officer, and financial officers.

 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and follow up with team leaders, community volunteers (CVs), national NGOs, and CBOs implementing MHPSS activities in the field.
  • Monitor the quality and progress of MHPSS activities and provide technical support where needed.
  • Support capacity-building plans for CVs and partner staff and track improvements through follow-up sessions and mentorship.
  • Provide ongoing field-level coaching and technical feedback to CVs and partner NGO staff on session delivery and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Health and CBI teams to integrate MHPSS components into their activities (e.g., SBC campaigns, stress management sessions), ensuring consistent messaging and appropriate referrals (internally or externally).
  • Ensure timely collection, review, and submission of MHPSS session reports, attendance sheets, and pre/post assessments.
  • Assist in organizing and delivering capacity-building activities, PFA and mhGAP training sessions, including follow-up and evaluation.
  • Contribute to developing MHPSS-related tools and materials (e.g., session guides, feedback forms, checklists).
  • Receive and follow up on MHPSS referrals (internal/external) and document outcomes, coordinating with the MHPSS Manager for complex or escalated cases.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and represent the MHPSS team in field-based discussions when delegated.
  • Write monthly narrative reports summarizing MHPSS activity progress and weekly reports, challenges, and feedback from the field.
  • Analyse field-level data and draft technical reports for internal and donor reporting.

 

  • Ensure alignment with Medair’s core values, protection principles, and safeguarding standards throughout all field activities.

 

Financial Management

  • Under the supervision of the MHPSS Manager, prepare PDFs for payment and PRs as needed  

 

Communication and Coordination

  • In close coordination with the MHPSS manager, develop and maintain appropriate, regular, transparent, and supportive communication structures with the assigned team and other relevant stakeholders (e.g., beneficiaries, community leaders, local authorities) to ensure good cooperation and partnerships.
  • Participate in Medair internal trainings and be delegated by the MHPSS manager, meetings as required, representing Medair and feeding back on relevant issues as per the MHPSS manager's request.

 

Logistics

  • Support the logistics activities for the MHPSS component of the project as required.
  • Plan and facilitate capacity-building sessions for community volunteers and NGO staff (e.g., mhGAP, PFA, group facilitation sessions).

 

Quality Management

  • Ensure quality implementation of the MHPSS activities
  • Ensure that all standardised formats are used and guidelines are followed
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of clients, staff, and agency information
  • Ensure that all spaces where activities are implemented meet interagency standards for safe spaces, whether mobile or static
  • Support the MHPSS Manager in developing training curricula, supervision tools, and learning materials.

Qualification / Experience

Essential

Vocational qualification

University degree in psychology, clinical psychology, educational psychology, counselling psychology, or mental health nursing.

 

A master’s degree and/or specialized diploma in the mental health or mental health nursing field is preferred.  

Work experience

Over 4 years of relevant post-qualification professional experience.

 

Experience in MHPSS projects, Psychology, or social work

Experience working in a humanitarian emergency context

Experience in partnership and community-based programming

Languages

Excellent English (oral & written)

Native Arabic speaker

 

IT

Familiar with Microsoft Office programs, in particular Word, Excel, and Outlook.

This position is based in Amman, Jordan. With daily field visits to other governorates in Jordan.
