Brief Posting Description

The Senior Engineer Drawings & Designs is responsible for the development, management, control, and continuous improvement of all engineering drawings, technical documentation, plant design records, and engineering change processes across the mining and processing operations. The role ensures that all engineering drawings, as-built documentation, layouts, schematics, and design data are accurate, current, compliant with applicable engineering standards, and readily available to support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant assets. The position provides technical leadership for engineering design activities, drawing management systems, plant modifications, engineering change management (MOC), document control coordination, multidisciplinary design reviews, and digital engineering initiatives. The role supports maintenance, operations, projects, shutdowns, and capital development activities by ensuring engineering documentation integrity and effective design governance throughout the asset lifecycle.

Detailed Description

DRAWINGS AND DESIGN MANAGEMENT

Develop, review, and manage engineering drawings including mechanical, structural, piping, electrical, instrumentation, civil, architectural, and process drawings.

Ensure all engineering drawings are maintained accurately and updated to reflect plant modifications and as-built conditions.

Establish and maintain engineering drawing standards, drafting procedures, templates, and design guidelines.

Ensure consistency and compliance with applicable international standards, company requirements, and OEM specifications.

Coordinate multidisciplinary drawing reviews and approvals prior to implementation of modifications.

Maintain master drawing registers and document history records.

Ensure obsolete drawings are withdrawn and controlled in accordance with document management procedures.

Support digitalization initiatives involving engineering document management and drawing systems.

ENGINEERING DESIGN AND MODIFICATIONS

Lead and coordinate engineering design activities for plant upgrades, asset improvement initiatives, debottlenecking projects, and operational modifications.

Prepare conceptual, basic, and detailed engineering designs.

Develop engineering calculations, technical specifications, scopes of work, and equipment layouts.

Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations for proposed modifications.

Ensure designs achieve required safety, operability, maintainability, reliability, and cost objectives.

Coordinate engineering deliverables with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Projects, and external consultants.

Participate in design verification and interdisciplinary design reviews.

Ensure engineering designs consider lifecycle cost optimization and long-term asset sustainability.

MANAGEMENT OF CHANGE (MOC)

Manage engineering aspects of the Management of Change process.

Review and evaluate proposed modifications and technical changes.

Ensure all design changes are supported by appropriate engineering documentation and risk assessments.

Coordinate updating of drawings, technical documents, procedures, and asset records following approved changes.

Verify implementation of approved modifications and completion of as-built documentation.

Ensure engineering changes comply with statutory, safety, environmental, and operational requirements.

ENGINEERING DOCUMENT CONTROL

Maintain engineering document control systems and technical databases.

Ensure proper filing, numbering, distribution, revision control, and archiving engineering documents.

Manage controlled copies of plant drawings and technical records.

Coordinate document reviews and approvals with engineering disciplines and stakeholders.

Ensure document accessibility for maintenance, operations, projects, and regulatory requirements.

Support audits by ensuring engineering records and documentation are accurate and available.

PLANT LAYOUTS AND AS-BUILT MANAGEMENT

Develop and maintain plant general arrangement drawings, equipment layouts, utility plans, and site infrastructure drawings.

Coordinate field verification activities to ensure drawing accuracy.

Conduct plant surveys and document existing conditions where required.

Ensure timely preparation and updating of as-built drawings following project completion.

Establish processes for maintaining plant configuration integrity.

Support operational and maintenance teams through provision of accurate plant data and layouts.

PROJECTS AND CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT

Support capital projects through engineering design development and drawing preparation.

Review consultant and contractor engineering deliverables.

Participate in project scope development, technical reviews, and constructability assessments.

Ensure project designs integrate effectively with existing facilities.

Coordinate engineering deliverables during project execution and commissioning activities.

Support handover processes and verification of final project documentation.


Job Requirements

Education:

Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering/production engineering or CAD/CAM engineering or equivalent

Experience:

Bachelor s degree with 15+ years experience in designs and drafting mechanical structures and mechanical equipment in mining, minerals processing, or heavy industrial operations.

Experience in CAD/CAM, SolidWorks or equivalent design software

Minimum 5 years in a senior engineering, design coordination, or technical authority role.

Certifications: Candidate must have followed certification

Certified AutoCAD Professional or equivalent CAD Design Certification.

Following certifications added advantage

Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA).

Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP).

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.

Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) or equivalent advanced CAD certification.
