INSO is looking for an Information Officer

INSO is an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation. Our mission is to support the humanitarian community with information, analysis, and advice that enhances situational awareness, supports informed decision-making, strengthens operational practice, and enables humanitarian access.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the INSO Information Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for completing and understanding internal INSO systems related to conflict and humanitarian data for Syria and the Partners network database. The Information Officer also provides technical support for developing visualizations and dashboards and supporting the Programme team in IM and IT-related tasks.

Key Duties

  • Lead the role in the design, development, management, and improvement of data management systems, including database and spreadsheets, along with related processes for data collection, cleaning and verification.
  • Identify information management needs in collaboration with the Information and Programme team.
  • Collect, compile, analyze and report various data from various sources and organize the database.
  • Integrating, designing, and extracting large datasets for statistical analysis, reports and data collection models where necessary.
  • Write data queries for analytical and report purposes using SQL.
  • Conduct regular training for partners and internal staff on internal systems and technology related to information management.
  • Identify obstacles related to collecting, analyzing, and disseminating information and develop appropriate improvement approaches.
  • Work closely with the GIS Officer to ensure accurate and regularly updated linkages between GIS maps and INSO’s Incidents Database.
  • Understand the ongoing events and the security environment of Syria.
  • Provide IT support for INSO Syria offices.
  • Support the information team in collecting and managing the Monthly Operation Statistics for the programme team.
  • Support the information team in managing the monthly roundtable meetings.
  • Any other information management and technology duties assigned by the Information Manager.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences, Information Management, or a relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in information management. Previous relevant experience with the NGO sector is an advantage.
  • Strong database design and management skills (familiarity with software such as MS Access, Excel, MySQL)   
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office 365, including PowerBI, SharePoint, PowerAutomate, PowerApps, and MS Forms.
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Publisher and Adobe InDesign.
  • Excellent skills in data collection and analysis.
  • Familiar with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Familiar with basic scripting language. Familiarity with Python coding is desired.
  • Understanding and working experience in the Syrian context is desired.
  • Understanding of the data collection of Logframes and Project Indicators.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic language, both written and verbal.
