Role overview

Downe House Muscat is seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of maths to join our thriving Maths Department. Reporting to the Assistant Head for Academic Standards, the teacher of maths is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching that secures strong progress and outcomes for all students. The post holder will teach maths across the secondary age range as required, contributing positively to a developing and ambitious department. For the right candidate, there may be scope to take on additional responsibility or a leadership role as the department and school continue to grow.

The role includes teaching IGCSE, A Level, and the Omani GED. No previous experience of the GED is required, as full training will be provided.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed professional who is an excellent communicator and who builds positive, collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.

Key responsibilities

• Teach maths to a high standard, planning and delivering well-structured lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
• Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and effective pedagogy, including clear explanation, modelling and purposeful practice.
• Differentiate effectively to ensure all students are supported to achieve success and the most able are appropriately stretched.
• Use assessment to track progress, identify gaps and inform teaching, providing timely, meaningful feedback.
• Contribute to schemes of work, shared resources and curriculum development within the department.
• Support intervention and enrichment to improve outcomes and build student confidence in maths.
• Maintain a safe, purposeful and well-managed learning environment and uphold school policies and expectations.
• Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues and students, contributing to positive home–school partnership where appropriate.

• A bachelor’s degree in maths or a relevant subject from a good university. (E)
