Health, Safety & Environment Engineer (HSE)

The Health, Safety & Environment Engineer (HSE) plays a critical role in ensuring the organization complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations. This position is pivotal for promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across all operations. The HSE Engineer conducts risk assessments, develops safety policies, and trains employees to maintain a safe working environment. Regularly liaising with management and external agencies, this role ensures adherence to local and national regulations and promotes continuous improvement in safety performance. By implementing effective HSE strategies, the HSE Engineer not only safeguards employees and assets but also enhances the organization’s reputation in sustainability and corporate responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE policies and procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and promote risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international HSE regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance on safety and environmental issues.
  • Lead incident investigations and prepare detailed reports.
  • Monitor work practices to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Develop and conduct employee training programs on HSE topics.
  • Collaborate with management to enhance safety performance metrics.
  • Prepare and present HSE reports to management and stakeholders.
  • Maintain records of incidents, inspections, and audits for reporting purposes.
  • Stay updated on changes in health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Promote the use of environmentally friendly materials and processes.
  • Assist in emergency preparedness and response planning.
  • Engage with employees to promote a culture of safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is a plus.
  • Proven experience in an HSE role within an industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Experience in conducting safety training and workshops.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends related to safety performance.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001) is desirable.
  • Experience in incident reporting software and hazard identification tools.
  • Willingness to relocate or travel as needed for site audits.
