Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial forecasting models for projects.
- Analyze project costs and profitability; prepare regular financial reports for senior management.
- Monitor cash flows and ensure proper budgeting and forecasting.
- Review and analyze financial risks related to ongoing projects.
- Conduct profitability analysis for projects and identify areas for cost savings.
- Support senior management in financial planning and investment decisions.
- Budgeting and Cost Control:
- Prepare the annual budget and monitor project budgets, including labor, materials, and overheads.
- Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of construction and design project costs.
- Monitor cost overruns and recommend corrective actions.
- Work with project managers to manage project finances and ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Analyze budget variances and provide recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements.
- Project Accounting:
- Oversee the accounting for all project-related financial activities.
- Track project revenue, expenses, and profitability by project phase or milestone.
- Prepare project-specific financial statements and analysis for client presentations.
- Financial Reporting:
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including profit & loss (P&L) statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Prepare and present financial reports for project managers, executives, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure all financial reporting complies with accounting standards, company policies, and legal requirements.
- Cash Flow Management:
- Manage the company’s cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity to meet operational and project-related needs.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and highlight potential funding shortfalls.
- Oversee payments to vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Payroll Management:
- Oversee the timely and accurate processing of payroll for all employees, including permanent and contract staff.
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws, tax regulations, and company policies regarding payroll.
- Manage deductions, benefits, bonuses, and other compensation-related items.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of employee information.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Oversee the processing of invoices, payments, and receipts to ensure timely transactions.
- Monitor accounts receivable and collaborate with clients and project teams to manage payments.
- Review and reconcile supplier accounts and handle any discrepancies or disputes.
- Audit and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
- Liaise with external auditors during annual audits and ensure timely resolution of audit queries.
- Ensure adherence to financial laws and guidelines governing the construction industry.
- Procurement and Contract Support:
- Review procurement processes to ensure cost-effectiveness and adherence to project budgets.
- Assist in contract preparation, ensuring financial terms align with the company’s objectives.
- Ensure accurate tracking of contracts, retention releases, and payment milestones.
- Contract and Vendor Management:
- Review financial aspects of contracts with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
- Negotiate payment terms and ensure timely payments while maintaining positive cash flow.
- Manage vendor relationships, payments, and pricing agreements.
- Risk Management:
- Identify financial risks related to projects and develop mitigation strategies.
- Ensure adequate insurance coverage for company assets and project liabilities.
- Funding Acquisition:
- Work with banks and financial institutions to secure funding for projects, including loans, lines of credit, and other financing options.
- Prepare financial documentation and proposals required for funding applications.
- Negotiate financing terms and maintain relationships with financial partners.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
- Professional Qualifications: CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in a finance role, ideally within the design, construction, or real estate industry.
- Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of construction project finances, including budgeting, cost management, and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).
- Knowledge of relevant tax regulations and compliance standards.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
