Job Title: Chief Strategist, Strategy and Innovation

Role Purpose:

Work closely with the Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer, offering support across all strategic initiatives while gaining an in-depth understanding of the company's strategic vision, innovation framework, and business operations. This role is designed to groom the individual to step into the CSIO position by building the necessary expertise and leadership skills. The Chief Strategist will collaborate with various teams, drive strategic projects, and contribute to corporate development activities while progressively taking on more responsibility.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES:


  • Attend key strategic meetings alongside the CSIO to understand high-level decision-making processes.
  • Assist the CSIO in executing strategic plans and driving key initiatives across the organization.
  • Act as a liaison between the CSIO and cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.


Strategic Development and Execution:

  • Identify and evaluate key trends and opportunities in the market to develop innovative strategies that enhance competitive advantage.
  • Identify opportunities across the organization for strategic initiatives that augment existing capabilities and/or create new capabilities.
  • Ensure understanding and alignment of strategic initiatives across the organization.
  • Support in prioritizing strategic initiatives and align timelines and attention across stakeholders.
  • Support in identifying success criteria for strategy execution and create the necessary reporting to monitor the performance of strategy execution.
  • Assist in the monitoring of progress and results, helping to ensure timely and successful execution of strategic initiatives.


Innovation and Technology Development:

  • Foster and lead a culture of innovation across the organization by promoting creative thinking and the exploration of new ideas.
  • Observe and follow technology trends in the Telecom, Technology and adjacent industries to stay abreast of market trends that could present strategic opportunities.
  • Identify and incubate new business opportunities, leveraging emerging technologies such as AI, Data Analytics, IoT, and other digital innovations.


Branding and Communication:

  • Collaborate with the CSIO on branding and communication strategies, ensuring consistency in brand messaging and market perception.
  • Gain experience in managing brand positioning and overseeing customer feedback and industry trends for continuous improvement.
  • Support the Branding team in adopting new ways of working to benefit from emerging technologies.


Corporate Development and M&A:

  • Engage in corporate development and M&A activities, including researching and evaluating potential opportunities that align with Omantel’s overall strategy.
  • Assist in fostering relationships with strategic partners, vendors, and stakeholders for future growth.
  • Engage in governing subsidiaries and aligning between Omantel and subsidiaries on Corporate, Technology and Brand Strategies.


Performance Management:

  • Support the CSIO in establishing and upholding performance measurement and quality standards across the organization.
  • Help monitor business performance, ensuring consistency and alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Ensure transparency and accountability in reporting, using data-driven insights to support decision-making processes.
  • Coordinate and align cross-functional performance initiatives to ensure ownership, execution and achievement.


Strategic Partnerships & Alliances:

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, including industry leaders, technology partners, and academic institutions.
  • Support negotiations and manage strategic alliances that drive innovation, enhance capabilities, and open new revenue streams.
  • Collaborate with external partners to co-create and scale innovative solutions that align with organizational objectives.


Process Improvement and Automation:

  • Gain exposure to continuous process improvement initiatives and automation strategies.
  • Assist in driving operational excellence across the organization by working with teams on process optimization.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS:


Knowledge / Technical Skills:

  • Strategic Acumen: Strong analytical skills with the ability to grasp and contribute to strategic direction and long-term business goals.
  • Innovation Mindset: Willingness to learn about and contribute to innovation and technology trends relevant to the telecom and technology industry.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams and the leadership, while progressively taking on more leadership responsibilities.
  • Brand Awareness: Basic understanding of branding principles and communication strategies, with a desire to develop expertise in this area.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Ability to engage with various stakeholders, learn from the CSIO, and build long-term relationships.
  • Process Improvement: Openness to learning business process improvements and automation methodologies.
  • Executive Presentation & Communication: Strong presentation skills with the capability to deliver compelling and clear executive-level presentations to stakeholders, including C-suite leaders and board members.


Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in business administration, Innovation, or Strategy is preferred but not mandatory.


Experience:

  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience of which at least 10 years should be in a leadership position.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a strategic, innovation, or corporate development role, ideally within the telecom or technology sector.
  • Experience in leading or supporting large-scale initiatives, working closely with leadership teams, and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Exposure to emerging technologies, branding, and corporate development activities.
