About the Company
Petroleum Development Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman. The Company delivers the majority of the country's crude oil production and natural gas supply.
Purpose of the Job
- To act as front-line supervisor on a remote location which could be in either the Rig or Hoist
- To motivate and develop an 'esprit de corps' within the rig crew, thus creating the appropriate culture, behaviors and motivation in the field environment to sustain HSE and operational performance
- To deliver safe operations on the rig floor as per the operational plan
- To safeguard the technical integrity of the well and the rig / hoists rig floor equipment
- To mentor and support new graduate engineers in the dynamic and demanding operational environment
Education & Experience
- A Diploma in Engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 9 years relevant experience in drilling and workover operations consisting of: Minimum of 3 years working as Assistant Driller or Minimum of 6 years working as Derrickman/Mud Tester on mechanized rigs or hoists.
Main Responsibilities
- QHSE Responsibilities:
- Conducts operations in a safe manner according to PDO policies and procedures
- Observes proper rig or hoist operating procedures, noting unsafe practices
- Plays an active part in QHSE meetings, toolbox meetings, the LEAN program and all other company safety management systems
- Is familiar in Ihtimam Behavior Based Safety (BBS) program and uses its techniques. Promotes the use of Ihtimam for employees to the personnel under his supervision
- Familiar with Permit to Work (PTW) requirement and follows the same
- Supervises the safety of the roustabouts, floor men and derrick man
- Maintains the lifting gear register and the DROPS register. Ensure its accuracy
- Observes the Life Saving Rules (LSR’s) and promote them to personnel under his supervision
- He ensures that his staff are inducted/trained in all aspects of Company’s Quality and HSE MS, as far as applicable to them in compliance with Procedures and Instructions as detailed in above systems
- Drilling Operations:
- Assists the driller with drilling operations, including relieve the driller, while supervised, in drilling ahead, making connections, etc
- Assists during tripping drill pipe including relieve and/or assist derrick man and relieve the driller, while supervised, in operation of draw works and other equipment
- Assists in running and cementing of casing
- Prepares BHA and rig floor equipment for tripping, casing and cementing operation
- Assists driller in other drilling operations
- Performs any other duties as assigned by driller or Rig Manager
- Organizes and direct crews for special projects.
- Relief Driller after demonstration of appropriate theoretical/practical skills after approval by Rig Manager
- Equipment:
- Ensure that drilling related Safety Critical Equipment (SCE) are maintained as per the SAP PM program.
- Assists in maintenance and repair of drilling equipment including supervise drill crew’s daily preventive maintenance on drilling equipment and all SAP WO are completed.
- Monitors mud system, and supervise solids control equipment and mud mixing operations.
