Job Title: Surveyor (Mine Surveyor / Geomatics) (1 Position)
About the Job
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Mine Surveyor / Geomatics Engineer to join our operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering accurate topographic, control and as-built surveys across open-pit and underground mining sites, producing survey deliverables that support safe and efficient extraction, processing and logistics. This is a field-focused role with close collaboration with geology, mining, engineering and operations teams to ensure spatial accuracy for planning, production and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Carry out survey control establishment and maintenance (GNSS, total stations, level networks) across mine sites.
- Perform topographic surveys, site set-out, stakeout and as-built surveys for drill patterns, benches, haul roads, stockpiles, processing facilities and infrastructure.
- Collect and process geospatial data using GNSS/GPS, total stations, laser scanners (LiDAR) and photogrammetry (drones/UAVs) as required.
- Generate and deliver accurate survey products: CAD plans, contour maps, digital terrain models (DTMs), cross-sections, volumes and point clouds.
- Calculate stockpile, excavation and fill volumes; support grade control and reconciliation workflows.
- Support drill & blast, loading/hauling and pit design activities with precise set-outs and regular monitoring measurements.
- Perform regular quality control, instrument calibration and data validation; maintain thorough survey logs and documentation.
- Liaise with geologists, mine planners, engineers and contractors to integrate survey data into GIS, mine planning and monitoring systems.
- Supervise or mentor junior survey technicians; coordinate third-party survey contractors when needed.
- Ensure all survey activities comply with site safety rules, environmental procedures and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Surveying, Geomatics, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field.
- 2–5+ years’ practical experience in mine surveying, geomatics or construction surveying; experience in both open-pit and underground environments preferred.
- Proficiency with GNSS/GPS, total stations, digital levels, laser scanners and UAV-based photogrammetry.
- Strong skills in surveying and mapping software (e.g., Auto CAD / Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica Infinity, Carlson, Topcon MAGNET, Arc GIS/QGIS) and point-cloud processing tools.
- Solid understanding of mine surveying conventions, coordinate systems, datums and geodetic principles.
- Experience with volume calculations, DTM generation, contouring and producing survey deliverables to engineering/specification standards.
- Comfortable working in remote/field conditions; valid driver’s license and ability to travel to sites; willingness to work in shifts or on-site rotations if required.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability and clear communication skills for cross-disciplinary teamwork.
- Commitment to safety and risk-aware field practices; relevant safety certifications an advantage (e.g., HSE, first aid).
What We Offer
- A hands-on technical role within a growing mining and processing operation.
- Competitive compensation with field allowances and performance incentives.
- Field accommodation and logistics support for site rotations.
- Professional development, training and access to modern surveying equipment and software.
- Collaborative environment with engineers, geologists and operational teams.
- Opportunities to lead projects and contribute to process improvements.
